With winter approaching fast, all snowboarders are getting hype. The count down begins to when your local Resort will be opening. A few things to do before the season goes under way. First thing to do is get out all your snowboarding gear and wash it. Make sure there are no mice in your boots from sitting all of off season. Have your board taken to your ski shop or a friend so that it can be sharpened and waxed. This will help bring your board back to brand new from when you tore it up last season. It allows you to carve more and shred down the mountain. Also make sure your bindings are tight and still fit your feet. If not you may need to go out and buy a new set of bindings. With those things on the list done, you will be ready to shred down the mountain in no time at all.

What are you thankful for?

Every year my family gets together for Thanksgiving. My mom, stepdad, brother, uncle, aunts, cousins, and my parents friends all come over. My mom wakes up early that day, cleans the house till you can eat off the floor and see your reflection in the refrigerators. Around ten she starts making.food that didn't need to be started the night before. At three o'clock everyone starts to roll in ready to eat as if they were fasting for days. As my mom was putting the final touches on the table everyone took their place at the table. Everything on the table looked so good as if i was looking at a Martha Stewart magazine. My mom's cooking is always on point. When everyone was ready we all held hands as my Grams prayed. After we all said amen, we all went around the table and said what we were thankful for. When it got to my i paused, i had so much to be thankful for i didn't know where.to start. I was thankful for my stepdad surviving cancer, my brother even though we fight, my mom because she is always there. But then i paused and thought it amazes me that it takes a holiday and food to get families together to be thankful for what they have. People should be thankful everyday, that they have woken up and have one more day to accomplish any dream or goal. Giving thanks shouldn’t be dedicated to one day out of the year it should be everyday. I am thankful for all the obstacles I have overcome and the people who were there for me when I needed them most.

As the days count down, winter is quickly approaching us fast. For a new snowboarder I recommend you go and get a pass as soon as possible! The slopes will be full with fresh powder soon enough! So make sure you are ready for open day! For a new snowboarder I would not spend all the money on a season pass. I would recommend a season night pass. This will allow you to have twenty-five dollars for food and drink at the lodge and you can start snowboarding at 5.

The Whitetail swap for other boards and equipment is coming up soon; don't miss out especially new shredders'. It's a great opportunity to save money your first year when you are learning! Don't go to late or all the good boards will be all gone!

On Saturday October 27th 9am to 5pm and Sunday October 28th 9am to 4pm at Whitetail Ski Resort there will be a ski and snowboarding swap. This is where other people bring their used boards, skies, jackets, bindings, gloves and any accessories that a skier or snowboarder would need.

I would advise new inexperienced boarders or skiers to go to any swap that they can find and get used equipment. This is better than brand new, because if something would happen to it like your board snapping and breaking or your skies getting messed up, you didn't pay hundreds of dollars for brand new equipment your first year. Also, buying used equipment is better because if at the end of the season you don't really like snowboarding or skiing than you didn't spend so much on something that you don't love doing.

My first year my mom actually bought me a new board and bindings, but I went to a ski swap and got snowboarding pants and a jacket. Also, I would advise you to get new boots if that is the only thing you would get new. Having your own boots is essential, because they need to form to your feet so they are comfortable when you shred down the mountain.

Beginners Section.

Whitetail Ski Resort is one of the few resorts in Pa. The image below shows the outline of the resort. Each path is designed for beginner, intermediate, and advance snowboarders and skiers. When I was taught how to snowboard three years ago a friend took me down sidewinder. This allowed me to learn how to control myself better, and have a better understanding of how to learn to turn. Now four years later I am going down Limelight and Angels drop which are advance trails. Also, one of my favorite spots is the jib junction. This is where all the jumps and pipes are. The first time I got big air I came down and smacked my face on the ice, but it takes a few times to understand how to land perfectly to where you don't fall. Now I can’t wait till winter comes around. It’s my favorite season, I get so excited to get all my boards and jacket out on the slops. Before every first ride of the year, any snowboarder should get their board waxed. This allows your board to ride smoother on the snow. If someone is starting out as a beginner, they should think about getting a used board and bindings which is where your boots strap into on the board. On October 27 there is a ski and snowboarding swap at the Whitetail Ski Resort, which is where someone can buy used boards, skis, jackets ect. so if someone is a new skier then they won’t mess up a new board.
